Even when we give our best, there are times we will still be disappointed... and occasionally we also meet people who are crazy ;-) Rather than adopting a negative attitude, I find it best to focus only on those people and things who we can count upon to give back to us what we ourselves are willing to contribute.

An unusual autumn sunset whose colors are more often seen in summer in the American west (where the desert dust accents the red and yellow wavelengths) this was shot at the Clingman's Dome observation tower in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's often fogged in and rarely warm but if you can get a shot well, old man Clingman put the tower there for a reason. It's only 3 1/2...

While on an Autumn flight to Chicago, I noticed the sky was beginning to show some very unique sunset colors. I had my camera but there was a problem: I was on the wrong side of the plane! Undeterred, I did what any man of action would do: I called the stewardess over and explained that I was a photographer for National Geographic and could she get me a window seat on the other s...

Far past the trappings of Hollywood, just south of the sprawling LA basin, the rat race gives way to a beautiful stretch of coastline where - even in California's challenging financial crisis - the days are beautiful and everything you hear about "laid back California" is fully on display. Laguna Beach is the birthplace of both skimboarding and extreme downhill skateboarding and...

Right after I got my first professional camera, I photographed this extraordinary sunset after being drenched by a rainstorm near Clingman's dome. I have a secret place I photograph in the great smoky mountains national park, a tip I learned from Ansel Adams. My pics will never be as good as his but secret locations and a nose for the weather I CAN manage. This is a reminder that...

One my "Masterpieces" i.e. Mother Nature did all the work for me and I was just lucky enough to show up. Sunset @ Lake Paradise -- Mattoon, IL — at Lake Paradise.

GOOD MORNING! SUNRISE OVER THE EMERALD COAST:
It really doesn't get any better than this shot from the 23rd floor overlooking Saint Andrews bay. Shots like these make all the hard work worthwhile & the many "bust" days with no good pics insignificant. One of my best ever, enjoy and please like the photo!

"CRACK IN THE SKY" SUNSET: This rare combination of "crevice clouds" at the horizon and winter lighting produced hues on the mountain water runoff I have never seen. I had about 30 seconds to set up, focus and shoot this. I only managed two shots, this one being the best. December 9th, 2014 @ Stone Mountain Park, Atlanta, GA USA
