Clingman's Rail

An unusual autumn sunset whose colors are more often seen in summer in the American west (where the desert dust accents the red and yellow wavelengths) this was shot at the Clingman's Dome observation tower in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's often fogged in and rarely warm but if you can get a shot well, old man Clingman put the tower there for a reason. It's only 3 1/2 hours from Atlanta so please go visit... and pack plenty of warm clothes! The metal railing you see is the circular walking ramp to the top. Jonathan Orozco accompanied me on this trip and graciously shared some expert photography tips. So I share credit for this one. I might add we nearly froze to death together too :-) October 28, 2011
