Far from the troubles of the modern world, there exists a hotel on the Blue Ridge parkway south of Ashville, NC with a very long waiting list. The tranquility of this place is difficult to match as there are no accessible roads and nothing but mountains as far as the eye can see. We managed to score a room on of all nights, the Trump vs. Clinton presidential debate which somehow seemed much more palatable to watch in this incredibly serene setting. We awoke before sunrise where I managed to capture this extraordinary sunrise. if you stay here, get a top floor room so you can see above the treeline!
High atop the Appalachians in the Pisgah national forest is a lone hotel, the only building you will see on the parkway for many, many miles. It is sold out for months or years in advance but if you are very lucky, you can get a room for a night if someone cancels and you check availability at exactly the right time. 5700 feet above sea level, this magnificently understated property features cozy rooms, old country charm and stunning views with 100mi visibility to the Carolina piedmont on clear days. Get the second floor if at all possible so you are above the tree line. And if you can't get a room, stop here anyway and dine at the outstanding restaurant and see more amazing views from your dinner table Our third year trying for a room, we finally scored! This was taken at sunrise from the hotel balcony. photo by
